PUNJAB ANNOUNCES PUNJABI SAHIT SHIROMANI AWARDS

Chandigarh January 28: The Punjab Government today announced the Punjabi Shiromani Sahit Awards for the years 2009 and has selected noted writer Sh. Kartar Singh Duggal for the most prestigious ‘Punjabi Sahit Ratan’ award worth Rs 5 lac. It has been agreed upon by Punjab State Language Advisory Board meeting held here today, presided over by Dr. Upinderjit Kaur, Education and Language Minister, Punjab.During the meeting, 17 personalities were unanimously chosen for different Shiromani awards by the board which included ‘Shiromani Punjabi Sahitkar’ award to be conferred to Sh. Piara Singh Bhogal, ‘Shiromani Hindi Sahitkar’ award to Sh. Ravinder Kalia while Sh. Rajinder Nath Rehbar has been selected for ‘Shiromani Urdu Sahitkar’ award.Dr. Upinderjit Kaur, Education and Language Minister, said that ‘Shiromani Sanskrit Sahitkar’ award would be given to Prof. Jagdish Prasad Semwal and ‘Shiromani Punjabi Kavi’ award to Sh. Jaswant Deed. Sh. Rajinder Singh Bhaseen has been chosen for ‘Shiromani Punjabi Gyan Sahitkar/Alochik’ award, while Darshan Gill would be conferred with ‘Shiromani Punjabi Sahitkar (overseas)’ award. Besides this, Sh. Mohan Kahlon for ‘Shiromani Punjabi Sahitkar’ award (outside Punjab) and Sh. Mahinder Singh Manupuri for ‘Shiromani Punjabi Bal  Sahitkar Lekhak’ award.Sh. H.S Bawa has been selected for ‘Shiromani Punjabi Patarkar’ award, Sh. Eedu Shariff for ‘Shiromani Ragi/Dhadi/Kavishar’ award and Sh. Om Puri for ‘Shiromani Punjabi Television/ Radio/ Theater/ Play/ Producer/Writer’ award and ‘Shiromani Punjabi Singer/Musician’ award would be awarded to Sh Paramjeet Singh Sidhu (Pammi Bai) whereas the newly instituted ‘Shiromani Punjabi Sahit Patarkarita Puraskar’ would be conferred to Sh Raghubeer Singh Sirjina, she said.The Minister further said that the Advisory Board also decided to honour Sh Roop Singh (SGPC) and renowned photo artist Sh Tej Pratap Singh Sandhu with special awards along with cash prize of Rs. two lac each for their valuable contribution. It has also been agreed upon in the meeting to institute a new award to honour the active Punjabi journalists working overseas with Shiromani Punjabi Parvasi Patarkar Purskar.

Canada m.p Mark Holland in chanayakaya dairy plant mandi gobindgarh

On his personal visit to India Hon'ble Mr. Mark Holland, Member Parliament from Canada alongwith his wife Ms.Cindy Holland visited the Chanakya Dairy Plant Mandi Gobindgarh on 14 Jan, 2010 . They were given red carpet welcome in Plant premises by Sh. Vinod Dutt. Managing Director and his team of senior executives.      The visiting couple was taken around the Dairy, where the Member Parliament took keen interest in the operational activities of Dairy Plant and appreciated the hygienic conditions maintained for preserving wholesomeness of eatable Dairy Products. He was impressed to see the manufacturing of indigenous H.F SUPER brand Milk Products like Paneer, Dahi, Desi Ghee, Butter & Milk Powder. The Managing Director of the Company apprised the Member Parliament about the system of milk procurement directly from Milk Producers and the high standard quality parameters being observed during procurement, processing & marketing, which are helpful to repose the trust of farmers & consumers.     The Managing Director, Sh. Vinod Dutt, stressed that there is great potential for export of indigenous milk products, like Desi Ghee and milk sweets like Rasgulla, Gulab Jamun, Kaju Pinni, Milk-Cake etc, which are in great demand in Canada, where Indians are Living in large numbers. Mr. Holland, Member Parliament appreciated the suggestion and assured to take up the mater with Government of Canada.     The Hon' ble Canadian, Member Parliament was also apprised of the intent of Chanakya Dairy Products Ltd to set-up an Organic Dairy Farming Project at a suitable place in India. For this, Sh. Vinod Dutt, MD requested the Canada parliamentarian to provide support of Equity Participation and the transfer of latest technical know-how from the Government of Canada.Mr.Holland Member Parliament admired the idea and assured to consider the ways and means to extend possible assistance from the Govt.of Canada , for launching the proposed Project.      The Canadian couple spent an hour in Plant and was given warm send-off by Management and Employees of Chanakya Dairy Products Ltd.mp_canada_5.jpg in photo mark holland in front of media van of www.apnapunjabnettv.com and www.khannagobindgarh.com

Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce has a new chief

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) has a new chief executive officer. He is 46—year—old Hernaikh Singh who is currently the associate director of the Institute of South Asian Studies.

A statement from SICCI said on Tuesday that Mr Hernaikh will join the organisation on 1 January 2010, bringing with him more than 20 years of experience in the Singapore government and non—government sectors and the research fraternity.

Vijay Iyengar, SICCI’s chairman, said: "Hernaikh comes with strong and extremely relevant credentials to push several important initiatives at SICCI, including the active promotion of entrepreneurship among the youth, developing relevant business—related publications, and identifying and exploring business potentials in new markets.

"Hernaikh has the capability and capacity to take charge of and lead these plans, as well as continue with important recent initiatives such as the Youth Committee, the professionals’ wing to be launched in 2010, the India internship programme and the Champions of Industry Dialogue Session."

Using theatre to curb drug menace

The year 2009 has been unproductive in terms of theatre activity in Punjab as the extreme summer is not conducive for outdoor performances, says Nirmal Rishi, and who worked in tele film of setia movies tele film cheekh, film actor from Ludhiana. There is no provision for an indoor stage, where the theatre groups can perform without paying hefty fee in the form of rentals, she says.

A lot of time and effort is wasted in finding sponsors for shows at private auditoriums, which can be utilised in staging good productions with support from the government.
